Rooted in a profound connection to the coastal landscape, Sandy Kay and Kathy McKnight explore the rhythms, movement, and atmosphere of the forest through their distinctive visual languages. Their paintings encourage us to slow down, breathe deeply, and become attentive to the subtle interplay of light, texture, and form. Through layered compositions rich with gesture and nuance, they evoke not only the visual beauty of the woods but also their lyricism—the sense of movement, harmony, and quiet energy that animates these living environments. Working primarily in oil and cold wax, often building surfaces through thirty or more layers, the artists create works that reveal depth, complexity, and discovery. Together, their paintings form a dialogue between observation and memory, abstraction and representation, inviting viewers to experience the forest as both place and presence.
